Why the obnoxious Simon Cowell poster? No, I'm not a fan of American Idol, even though I think Simon's kinda cute even when he's making an ass of himself. Here's what it reads:

66 million votes from callers nominating their favorite singer exceeded the total number of votes ever recorded during an election for president. Vote for something that MATTERS!
One of my earliest memories of politics in this country was watching Richard Nixon resign to avoid impeachment. (Yeah, I'm that old.) I learned from an early age that there are a lot of scoundrels in government. Later in life, I learned there are a lot of scoundrels in business, too.
While we have to wait and hope that the marketplace (or the attorney general) eventually weeds out the liars and cheats in business, it's up to us to weed them out of government. We elect 'em, we can
kick 'em out. One thing Richard Nixon taught me was that each person in this country is held accountable for his or her actions, even those who hold the highest office.
And so, if you are going to live in a place that holds you accountable, then be accountable.
Be counted.
Hopefully, if we all do our jobs well, we won't have to impeach any more presidents.

This post is part of an effort across the lit blogosphere to get out the message. Check out the master list here: Blog the Vote

I am also old enough to remember Nixon and the Watergate break-in. Even though Tricky Dick resigned, his legacy was carried on by Bush Sr. Bush Jr, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and others.
But yes, we can kick 'em out, and we will.
Thanks for the post,
